Who We Are

Magyar Farming was established with the support of a small group of British investors to identify farms in Central Europe that would benefit from investment to achieve their potential.

David Gunner - Chairman

Appointed in 2001, David is joint managing director of Dovecote Park Ltd, a Yorkshire based integrated beef abattoir and packing plant, that has a dedicated relationship with Waitrose. He has spent the majority of his career in the meat industry in the UK after working in Europe and Canada between 1988 and 1997 holding the position of plc director with Sims Food Group PLC.

Nicholas Tapp - Director

Until recently Nick was managing director of a family farming and potato business in Kent, managing over 1300 hectares and supplying Tesco with fresh potatoes. He is also a vice-chairman of Grain Harvesters Ltd, a grain storage, feed milling and pet food business. Nick currently serves as the CLA Chairman for Kent, and on the Board of the potato division of the new levy board, AHDB. He has varying agricultural interests particularly in the development of bio fuels. Nick is a Nuffield Scholar and a member of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Simon Weaver - Director

Simon is managing director of a large mixed family farming business of 1200 hectares in the Cotswolds. The enterprise includes dairy, beef, sheep and arable farming as well as contracting. At his dairy he produces a range of award winning Cotswold brie cheeses supplied to Sainsbury's and specialist retailers and is a director of Arable Crop Storage. Simon has held national roles with the NFU. He is also a Nuffield Scholar.

Chris Combe - Director

Chris graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Agricultural Mechanisation. For the last 23 years he has been a Crown Estate tenant on a farm in Wiltshire.The farm consists of combinable crops and livery.He has also built a business centre including offices and industrial units with tenants ranging from a concrete plant to a ladys only gym! He is financial director of a nursing and care agency operated by his wife.He is also a Nuffield Scholar.

Andrew Hunter - Managing Director

Andrew is a farmer's son from East Yorkshire. He graduated from the Royal Agricultural College in 1992, was subsequently awarded a Nuffield Scholarship, and has held two farm management positions in the United Kingdom; the second with Childerley Estates Ltd, Martin Jenkins' family company in Cambridgeshire who is a shareholder and past Chairman of the company.

Andrew originally went to Hungary to purchase for the Company a Hungarian farming business in January 1998 and now lives in Györ and is fluent in Hungarian. He is responsible to the Board for the performance of the Subsidiaries and manages all the day-to-day activities of the business.
